To acquaint the children tot eh hands on leaning I am used to we played a problem solving game that gets us up close in personal. Due to the short period of time I had I thought this would be a good way to work together, have fun and meet me as their teacher. After every game we debriefed
Community visuals/ discussion
The students returned to their desks for a discussion on what community is. We defined it and gave examples of the communities we are apart of (school, sports, church, home town ect.)
We then drew a visual of circles inside of circles to show how our communities fit into each other and discussed how each one works together. This part was relate to the game played outside for the students were one community working together for a common goal
Trust Games
To instill the ideas of trust within a community and between them, students were lead outside to play more games
The first game was simply guiding a partner around only using their hand to guid them while they were blind folded. This slowly became more challenging as I added obstacles for them to walk through.
In the second game students either lifted each other asa whole group or did a class trust fall depending on age group. Some classes were able to lift a person and walk with them or move them like a conveyor belt. Some classes lifted them above their heads and the oldest group of kids were able to catch a jumping student all together!
The discussions on these games were great because the students did not believe any
